Like anybody who has ever contemplated writing their first blog post, I sat around for days wondering what I would say, wondering how I would say it, and, more importantly, wondering what you would find interesting. And yes, that was a lot of wondering. But truly the last was the most important and the most difficult. What would a visitor to my site find interesting? Hmmm. We all have different tastes. Surely, a tourist-trap T-shirt wasn’t the answer. Here, one size does not fit all.
Depending on my topics and writing style, some folks will read a sentence or two and leave to troll other sites looking for a tenderer morsel to devour. A few, and I hope it’s a many few, will stick around and take this journey with me. It doesn’t have to be a one-sided adventure. I don’t have to do all the writing. You can leave a note, a word, a comment, maybe your own post right below this one. We’ll share the space. And I’ll try to be a companionable blog-mate. And I hope you will be the same.
The topics here will be wide and varied, mostly to do with writing, books, film, and loving life. I also have a soft spot for libraries and bookstores, which we can talk about in a future post.
Before we part, allow me to offer you one more courtesy. I will try to keep my posts short. I will find the time to edit myself, so you don’t have to.
Oliver Wendell Holmes once said, “There is no friend like an old friend who has shared our morning days, no greeting like his welcome, no homage like his praise.”
While I may write mysteries, there is no mystery here. I hope we will be friends.
